Inauguration of Amrit Brikhya Andolan-2024 at Kamrup

  • On 1st August, 2024, Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary, Environment & Forest etc. Minister, Govt. of Assam & Guardian Minister, Kamrup district inaugurates the Kamrup district “Amrit Brikshya Andolan-2024” programme at Jiakur Reserve Model Hospital under Palashbari Revenue Circle of Kamrup District.   Speaking as the chief guest, Environment and Forests Minister Chandramohan Patwari said that 36 per cent of the total area in the state is currently covered with green cover. The state government has taken steps to plant 30 million trees across the state under the Amrit Briksha Andolan program under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma to increase this coverage to 38 per cent and create a tree economy in the state. The Minister urged everyone to participate in this program to create a beautiful and safe environment for future generations. He also cited that as the amount of green cover around us is decreasing, we are all facing problems like global warming, climate change. There is a need to plant trees as a social duty to protect the environment. The minister said the forest department has arranged the saplings required for the program on its own initiative.   The event was also attended by local MLA of Palashbari constituency, Shri Hemanga Thakuria, who urged everyone to participate in the historic Amrit Briksha Andolan program launched by the state government to conserve the environment and increase the green cover of the state. He also urged everyone to take proper care of the saplings which are planted under this programme.   Speaking in the meeting, the Special Chief Secretary (Forests), M. K Yadav said that more than 10 million trees were planted in the state under the Amrit Briksha Andolan program last year. He said the target is to plant 30 million commercially valuable trees this year. The theme of this year’s Amrti Brikhya Andolan is ‘A Tree in the Name of Mother’.   Delivering a welcome speech at the function, the District Commissioner of Kamrup District Keerthi Jalli, IAS, said that the state government has set a target of planting more than one million trees in Kamrup district under the Amrit Briksha Andolan programme and as in last year, she also expected the participation and cooperation of everyone to achieve this target this year too. She also urged the participants to register on the website (https://aba.assam.gov.in/) for the program and upload photos of the tree planting. The program was also attended by Division Officer Dimpi Bora, IFS who explained about the the Amrit Brikhya Andolan.   Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Lower Assam Zone, P. J Vijaykar, Chief Executive Officer of Kamrup Zila Parishad, Orpah Baglari, ADC  Kamal Baruah, Palashbari Revenue Circle Officer Smti Himadri Bora, ACS and social worker Anjan Goswami were present at the meeting.
